| Rebekah Quattlebaum,
the artist behind BekasTurn, never imagined herself getting into woodworking.
Though her creative side has led her into more adventures than she can
keep track of, including singing, dancing, musical composition, novelty
chocolates manufacturing, and teaching, shop tools remained in the realm
of her father until his untimely death. Then, in tribute to her father
and wishing to keep his memory alive, Rebekah took up the same tools Fred
Chatham had used, and started making pens.
Somehow, between homeschooling her three
daughters, keeping her husband on the straight and narrow path, and the
never ending household chores, Rebekah manages to turn out an astonishing array of wooden artwork. Viewing
each unfinished piece with an artist's eye, Rebekah searches out the intrinsic
properties that make each piece of wood stand out from another. Pulling
these properties from the wood and giving them life is what makes every
finished piece a true work of art.
Where does all this creativity take
place? Down in the basement, in an 11 x 22 shop, Rebekah has lined the
walls with power equipment and hand tools. The convenient location is both
a blessing and a curse. It allows her to keep a check on the kids while
she's working, but at the same time beckons to her constantly during the
day. Rebekah loves her woodworking! She's been known to spend an entire
day in the basement, morning to night, polishing her latest design to perfection.
What a blessing to have a "job" she loves so much!
OK, what kind of person is Rebekah when
she's not obsessed with her shop? Upbeat and optimistic to a fault. Always
ready for fun or a joke. Deeply spiritual and traditional. Absolutely devoted
to her husband, and enamored with her children. She loves to watch movies
and TV--especially "tear jerkers." Vacationing on the beach is her favorite
getaway. Rebekah is a people-person and loves to make new acquaintances,
socialize with friends, and talk on the phone. Curl up with her husband
on the couch for a good movie, hot chocolate in one hand and popcorn in
the other, and Rebekah is in paradise.
Did we mention that Rebekah loves to
see people enjoy her work? It's a blast to show off her latest creation, knowing
that she's presenting a product that sells itself. Whether talking to potential
retailers, or individuals interested in a single piece, there's no greater
thrill than seeing her artwork placed into an appreciative hand--and observing
the inevitable smile that follows.
BekasTurn. Art from the Heart.
