BekasTurn History
The story of BekasTurn artwork begins with a man named Fred Chatham. Fred was an honorable man, well-known and loved by all who knew him. Unfortunately there were times that life dealt Fred a few harsh cards. As a father of three girls, he sacrificed his boyhood dreams just to make ends meet. It wasn’t until he neared retirement, with his three daughters grown and gone, that he began to see fruition of his wishes.

Fred built the shop he had wanted since high school and stocked it with woodworking tools. He learned to make custom pens, and had begun selling them when a sudden heart attack put an end to his work. Fred Elwin Chatham passed away June 8, 2005. But his death is only the beginning of the BekasTurn story.

The tools in Fred’s shop were passed on to his youngest daughter, Rebekah, herself a mother of three girls. Rebekah had very little experience with power tools, and knew nothing of woodworking, but she did have a desire to carry on her father’s dream as a way of continuing the great love she had for her father. So, armed with determination, untapped talent, and a passion for excellence, Rebekah set up shop and dove into woodworking with her characteristic zeal. In a matter of weeks, she had improved upon her father’s artwork and displayed a beauty and craftsmanship of her own.

The name BekasTurn refers first to the passing of the baton to Rebekah from her father—it’s now “her turn” for woodworking. The name is also a play on words. In woodworking, a lathe “turns” a piece of wood while the artist shapes it.

When you pick up something from the BekasTurn collection, you hold in your hand an absolutely unique, one-of-a-kind work of art. Each piece is hand-carved, and no two items are exactly alike. The beauty you see, and the quality you feel, are the results of a loving passion Rebekah has for her work. She is proud of every piece and considers them all a part of the living legacy begun by her father.

So, whether you are an art lover, a pen connoisseur, or just appreciate fine American craftsmanship, BekasTurn artwork will be a welcome addition to your home.
